Elan Hotel "Employee of the 4th Quarter" Award 2011

Congratulations goes out to Michael Kim the Elan Hotel's Employee of the 4th Quarter 2011. Michael has been employed by Greystone Hotels since September 2009 and during this time he has proven to be a tremendous asset to the Elan Hotel. Michael has received many accolades on Trip Advisor and Survey Monkey for his attention to detail and customer service. Congratulations Ofelia!

On December 15^th, 2011, Ofelia Juan retired as the Executive Housekeeper at the Inn at Union Square after 8 years of service. Ofelia will be  joining her husband, Virgillio (also a former employee of the Inn at Union Square) in the Philippines where they will help take care of their grandchildren and enjoy the quiet life. We thank Ofelia for her hard work and dedication to the Inn at Union Square and wish her all the best in her retirement!

America's Cup Sails Into San Diego!

Maddie was invited by America's Cup event planners to hit the high seas and check out the amazing action in the San Diego Harbor on November 16th. It was an exciting afternoon on a beautiful day....

We enjoyed seeing many of the America's Cup staff on a daily basis at the Bristol - what a nice group of guests!

Dex Welcome Reception

Dex Media is back at the TownePlace for another year and we are so glad to see them all again!  This year our sales manager, Chris, has gotten the majority of the receptions sponsored by various local restaurants.  The first reception was done by Caldera Grill and it was fantastic!  Everyone loved the food and of course the wine/beer.  Welcome back, Dex!

September Birthdays

We decided to do something special for Julio's birthday, so we got everyone together and threw him a surprise lunch. It was a lot of fun with a lot of good food. Fabi even made a special pot of menudo for Julio, it's his favorite!  We've also decided to make this a tradition and do a potluck lunch every month so that we can celebrate everyone's birthday.

Bend Summer Employee Party

We held our "End of Summer" employee party this past September and it was a lot of fun! The weather was great and so was the food. Everyone had a great time visiting or swimming in the pool/hot tub.

SF Cluster Picnic

On Sunday, August 28^th, the SF Cluster Hotels got a chance to hang out with each other outside of work at the 1^st annual employee picnic in Golden Gate Park.  The picnic was a huge success as over 170 employees came out to celebrate what the SF Cluster hotels do best: spend time with our friends and family, eat fantastic food, and of course staying active!

With all the talk of being healthy this year, everyone had a chance to get active.  The morning started with a 5K walk/run; congratulations to all who participated!  In the afternoon there was soccer, volleyball, and baseball being played by all.  We even caught a picture of Rosemarie doing a dance!  Even the children had a chance to join in the fun. They got to go crazy in the bounce house and whack each other with the inflatable jousting!

  

With all that running around, everyone built up an appetite for some BBQ. Of course the best BBQ chefs in San Francisco were in Golden Gate Park, cooking up a fantastic lunch for everyone.  Bertrand Newson and Norbert Mede, the SF GM’s, owned the grills and made mouthwatering BBQ chicken and ribs, delicious hamburgers and hotdogs, and not to mention B’s famous bread pudding.  Everyone ate well and lots of napkins were used.

Ultimately this picnic was about the Greystone Hotel employees and their families, who provide an exceptional experience every single day at their hotels.  They are what bring such a unique energy to the each hotel and guests can see that in our smiles and attitude.  Good work team!

 

Marc & Maddie visit the San Diego Diplomacy Council

Marc Horodas, GH Assistant to the President / Business Development, and Maddie Giuseppini, Bristol Sales Manager, were recently in the Balboa Park area to award San Diego Diplomacy Council with a catered luncheon. SDDC is the first winner of our new Preferred Corporate Company of the Month program.

This award goes to our highest producing Corporate account each month. The client gets their choice of a catered office lunch or a Two Night Stay at any Greystone Hotel. Marc & Maddie enjoyed meeting the SDDC crew and shared in the lunch, which was ordered from our new partners at the Bristol; Festivities Catering.

Bridge to Bridge

Another great day for a run in San Francisco. October 2^nd , 2011 marked the 34^th running of the Bridge to Bridge run in San Francisco. Dubbed the “most beautiful race in the world”, the Bridge to Bridge starts at the Ferry Building on the embarcadero, runs through Fisherman’s Wharf, by Fort Mason, along Crissy field, to the base of the Golden Gate Bridge and then finishes in the Presidio. As an extension of the Health and Fitness programs in place at the three SF Cluster hotels, participants from the King George and Hotel Griffon participated in this years event. Bertrand Newson, Kirk Spaseff, Juan Bran from the King George and Norbert Mede, Matt Swenson. Glen Garcia and Larry Jimenez from the Hotel Griffon ran their hearts out on a beautiful sunny fall day in the city by the bay.

Elan Hotel's "Employee of the 3rd Quarter" 2011

Congratulations goes out to Alondra Diaz. She is Elan Hotel's "Employee of the 3rd Quarter". Alondra is a hard working, dedicated employee and who understands our commitment to "experience exceptional service" and displays this on a daily basis. She has been employed as a Room Attendant since February 2010 and has proven to be a great asset to the company.

Greystone Fellows Conquer Yosemite's Half Dome

On July 9th three determined Greystone team members (Norbert Mede, Marc Horodas & Bertrand Newson) were part of a hiking expedition team. The group attacked the trail leading up to Half Dome at the crack of dawn. Fortunately everyone made it to the peak of Half Dome & back safely! In all, nearly 7,000 ft @ the peak, 12 hours & 14 miles filled with breath taking water falls & the hike of a lifetime!

SF Cluster Team Fitness 5K Walk/Run

On Sunday August 28th, team members along with family & friends participated in the SF Golden Gate Park Cross Country 5K Walk/Run! As part of the wellness/fitness movement led by GM's Norbert Mede & Bertrand Newson, it was great to see so many people make the time, effort & commitment by participating in this fun team building event.

The true meaning of teamwork was displayed following the 5K Run/Walk as each participant helped set up for the SF Cluster BBQ Picnic later morning (blog story/pictures to come)!

Congratulations to Norbert Mede for posting the fastest race time within the Greystone group!

Go Green Team!

On July 23^rd, members of the Hotel Griffon “Green Team” volunteered a Saturday to replant seedlings at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area greenhouses at Fort Funston in San Francisco. Team members Matt Swenson, Front Office Manager; John Judan, guest Services Agent; and Norbert Mede, General Manager transplanted native bushes, grasses and flowers which will be used for flora and habitat restoration projects this fall at Muir Beach in Marin County. This is a part of the on-going environmental policies and mantra at the Hotel Griffon as we try to mitigate the environmental impact of our business in pursuit of neutral impact on our world.
